Administrative Area Reviews 1973-94

This page contains links to the reports and resulting Statutory Instruments from Administrative Area Reviews which we carried out during the existence of the Region, Island Area and District local authorities area boundaries, which existed in Scotland between 1973 and 1995, as introduced by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973. Similar information is available on our administrative area reviews during the period from 1995 onwards on the 32 single-tier local authorities which succeeded these local authorities after the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994.

Each Statutory Instrument generally implements our recommendations. In a small number of cases, the Statutory Instrument implements the recommendations with modifications - these cases are indicated in the Statutory Instrument column. These reviews were conducted in order to consider the boundary of local authority areas. Where a review recommended an amendment to the boundary, it also recommended consequential changes to the corresponding District Wards and Electoral Divisions for the local authorities.
